Hannah’s Reflections ~The Beryl Family~

Hi, I am Hannah.
I will be looking into Families of Gemstones in more detail.

This week is The Beryl Family.
Here I will give you my reflection and some information on what I have found out about The Beryl Family.

Here is an easy-to-identify poster of The Beryl Family Gemstones:

Composed of beryllium aluminium cyclosilicate (Be₃Al₂Si₆O₁₈), beryl is the primary source of beryllium and is highly valued in gemology for its durability, with a Mohs hardness of 7.5–8. Each variety of beryl has its unique appeal and value, making it one of the most significant and popular gemstone families in the world.

Beryl represents a big and colorful family—there is a beryl variety that matches almost every color in the rainbow. The different colors occurring in beryl are due to specific trace impurities present in the crystalline structure. (I find it so interesting that The Beryl Family has such a range of colors - all because of a trace of impurities that changes the gemstones color. This just proves how the natural world can surprise you. Amazing!)

Thank you for reading! I hope you’ve enjoyed this blog :)
