About Stone: Conch is a common name applied to a number of different sea snails or their shells. True conch are marine gastropod molluscs in the family Strombidae. There are two types of conches – the left handed conch shell and the right handed conch shell. The right handed conch is considered auspicious and is also known as Valampiri Shankha or Lakshmi Shankha. Vajrayana Buddhism absorbed the conch as a symbol which fearlessly proclaimed the truth of the dharma. Among the eight symbols, it stands for the fame of the Buddha’s teaching, which spreads in all directions like the sound of the conch trumpet.
